Privacy Policy
Thank you for reading our privacy policy. By Jovi is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy, and this policy explains how we handle the information we obtain when you interact with By Jovi. Please note that we collect NO personal information about you when you visit our website, unless you choose to provide personal information to us.
Our website contains links to other websites. However, we do not share personal information with any website which we link to. We are not responsible for any other website's privacy practices, and we encourage you to learn about the privacy policies of other websites before you send any personal information to them. Accordingly, this privacy policy only applies to our website and not to linked websites.
In this privacy policy, "email updates" refers to the emails that we send out via Yahoo! Groups (accessed by http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/ByJovi/), and "our website" refers to this website (accessed by http://www.destin8.com/~ByJovi/ and http://www.byjovi.co.uk).
Non-personal information we collect automatically
There is certain information that we automatically collect and store when you visit our website. This information does not identify you personally. We automatically collect and store only the following information when you visit our website:
- The pages you visit
- The date and time you access each page
- The internet domain/IP address of the computer you use
- We may record the type of browser and operating system you use
- If you visited our website via a link on another website, then we may record the address of that website
We use this information only to see which areas of our website are the most (or least) popular, and to understand the types of technology that our visitors use. We do not track or record information about individual users and their visits.
Personal information we collect
We give you the opportunity to email us without joining By Jovi, as well as to send us feedback via our website. In both instances we expect you to provide your email address, but it is up to you whether or not you provide us with any more personal information, such as your real name.
If you choose to join By Jovi, you will need to send us your email address. We run By Jovi via Yahoo! Groups, so if you have a Yahoo! ID associated with your email address, we will be able to retrieve your Yahoo! ID, and thus view your public profile on Yahoo! (if you have created one). We do not intentionally keep a record of Yahoo! IDs; it is something which Yahoo! does automatically, and which we cannot disable. (This applies to all Yahoo! Groups, and not just to By Jovi.) However, if you do not already have a Yahoo! ID, it is possible to join By Jovi via email without creating a Yahoo! ID.
All members of By Jovi have the opportunity to contribute to our email updates, and may choose to contribute to our website too. Sometimes we may also accept contributions from people who aren't members of By Jovi. Contributing to By Jovi in any way is entirely voluntary, and it is up to you what personal information you submit to us in this way. Please bear in mind that any personal information you submit for inclusion on our website/email updates may be read, collected, and/or used by other individuals. We are not responsible for any personally identifiable information that you submit for inclusion on our website/email updates.
If you send us a donation via PayPal, then PayPal will provide us with your name and email address along with the amount of money that you have donated to us. We will not request a mailing address or any other personal information from you. Under no circumstances will PayPal share your financial information with us. Please visit PayPal's website to read their privacy policy: https://www.paypal.com
If you are aged 16 or under, please get your parent or guardian's permission before sending us personal information. Children without this consent are not allowed to provide us with personal information.
How we use personal information
If you email us (without joining By Jovi), or send us feedback via our website, we will only use the personal information that you provide to respond to your message and to provide you with any information that you request. We will not add you to By Jovi unless you ask us to do so.
If you choose to join By Jovi, we will only use your personal information to administer your membership, to keep a record of which membership options you have chosen, and to deliver any email(s) that you have requested. We will only send our email updates to you if you have specifically and explicitly requested to receive them.
If you send us a donation via PayPal, we will keep the details of your donation confidential, and we will not use your personal information for any purpose (other than to send you a "thank you" email -- hey, it'd be rude not to).
We do not approve of unsolicited email, and we do not believe that emailing people against their wishes is acceptable. We do not disclose, sell, trade, loan, lease or rent any personal information that we collect, including our member list, to anyone.
We may disclose personal information if: (a) we are required to do so by law or litigation; (b) we have reason to believe that disclosing such information is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against someone who may be causing injury to or interference with (either intentionally or unintentionally) our rights or property; or (c) disclosing such information will help protect the personal safety of the By Jovi moderators and/or members of By Jovi.
All personal and non-personal information that we collect may be stored and processed in England and/or Germany. If you join By Jovi and/or contribute to our email updates, then some of your personal information will be stored on Yahoo! Groups' servers; we were unable to determine the country (or countries) where their servers are located at the time of writing this privacy policy. Finally, if you send By Jovi a donation via PayPal, then PayPal will store the personal information that you send to them on servers located in the USA. By using our website and/or interacting with By Jovi, you consent to the transfer of your information to these countries.
You should note that if you choose to contribute to our email updates, or to our website, then any personal information you submit for inclusion may be viewed in any country worldwide; we do not geographically restrict access to our website or email updates.
How we protect personal information
We take precautions to ensure the security of our website, and to safeguard your personal information against loss, theft, and misuse, as well as unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction.
You can help us by also taking precautions to protect your personal information. Change the password for your email account regularly, and use a combination of letters and numbers instead of a word that someone could guess. (For example, "bonjovi" or "bongiovi" would be a bad password to use, as anyone that knows you're a Bon Jovi fan would guess that easily!) If you have a Yahoo! ID, you should also change your password for that on a regular basis too, and use a different password to that which you use for your email account. Using a secure web browser, such as Firefox, will also help protect your privacy, particularly if you make sure to use the latest version.
The list below explains in more detail (some of) the precautions we take to help protect your personal information:
- If you are not a By Jovi member
- If you have never been a member of By Jovi, and have never contacted us in any way, then we do not have any of your personal information.
- If you are not a By Jovi member, but have contacted us in some way
- Any personal information that we obtained when you contacted us will only be shared amongst By Jovi moderators. (This includes, but is not limited to, emailing us, sending us feedback via our website, and/or sending us a donation via PayPal.)
- If you have joined By Jovi, but choose not to contribute to our website/email updates
- The only personal information that we have about you in this instance, unless you have contacted us in some other way, is your email address (and, if you have one, the Yahoo! ID associated with your email address). To protect your privacy, only By Jovi moderators have access to the By Jovi member list on Yahoo! Groups.
- If you have joined By Jovi, and contribute to our email updates
- Whilst contributing to our email updates is voluntary, we will often remove email "signatures" and most email "headers" from contributions to our email updates, to help protect the privacy of our contributors. This means that if you want to include personal information such as your phone number and address within your contributions to By Jovi, you must explicitly include/reference them within your message, otherwise they are likely to be deleted. However, you should not rely on us to delete your email signature before including your message within our email updates; you should be prepared for your email signature to be included with your message. Thus, you should not include anything within your signature that you do not want to be posted publicly. Please note that (except for special circumstances) your email address will be included with your contribution(s) to our email updates. To protect your privacy though, our message archives on Yahoo! Groups are not public; only current members of By Jovi with a Yahoo! ID can access them. Also, Yahoo! Groups truncate all non-"@yahoogroups.com" email addresses within our archives, to make it harder for anyone to try and collect the email addresses of our contributors.
- If you have joined By Jovi, and contribute to our website
- As with contributing to our email updates, contributing to our website is voluntary. We only include information on our website that you specifically ask us to include. To protect you from spam, your email address will not be included on our website, unless you specifically ask us to add it.
- If you have been a member of By Jovi in the past, but have since left
- Leaving By Jovi does not affect the precautions that we take to protect your personal information. We will take exactly the same precautions to protect your privacy as we did when you were a member of By Jovi.
- Children's privacy
- By Jovi is aimed at a general audience, and we do not knowingly collect nor request any personal information from children without their parent or guardian's consent.
Updating personal information
Some (but not all) of the personal information that we collect is maintained in retrievable form. The list below explains what information you can change, and how you can make changes:
- Membership preferences
- If you are a member of By Jovi, you have full control over your membership, and can change all aspects of your membership yourself, at any time. You can learn what you're able to change, and how to make changes, in the "FAQ" section of our website.
- Email update contributions
- Our Yahoo! Groups archives are not editable, so if you have contributed to our email updates we are unable to change or delete your contribution(s). If you have sent us a contribution, but it has not yet been included within our email updates, then it may be possible for you to submit changes before we include it. Timing is critical though, as there is no guarantee that we will receive your amends in time to apply them. The sooner that you try and correct any mistakes that you've made, the more likely it is that we'll be able to accommodate them.
- Website contributions
- If you have made a contribution to our website and wish to change it, simply email us and let us know what changes you would like to make.
Cookies and other technologies
We do not use cookies, "click-through URLs" or pixel tags on By Jovi. Additionally, all of our email updates are sent in plain text format. This means that we cannot tell which of our email updates you preview, open and/or read, nor can we tell if you personally click any links within our email updates.
Please note that whilst it is possible for you to set your Yahoo! Groups preferences so that you receive emails from By Jovi in HTML format, there is no point in choosing this option, as all of our email updates are plain text to begin with.
Changes to our privacy policy
We may occasionally update our privacy policy. When we do, we will also update the "last updated" date at the end of this page. If we make any major changes to our privacy policy, we will notify you by placing a prominent notice on the home page of our website. We encourage you to periodically review our privacy policy to stay informed about how we are helping to protect the personal information that we collect. Your continued use of our website (and/or the By Jovi email updates) constitutes your agreement to this privacy policy and any updates we may make to it.
