Help
The "FAQ" section of our website is the best place to get help with any problems which you may be having with our website or email updates, but we'll outline some general advice below. If you can't find the answer to your problem on our website, feel free to email us.
Having trouble reading our website?
Our website follows the latest web coding standards, and so our website is not optimised for/targeted at any particular web browser. (Specifically, our HTML code should validate as XHTML, and the layout of our website should be controlled with valid CSS. There are links at the bottom of every page on our website where you can validate our code, if you wish.) As long as you use a web browser which supports the web coding standards, then you shouldn't have any trouble reading our website. (If you are using a recent web browser and have trouble reading our website, please let us know.)
If you were to ask us to recommend a web browser to you, then we'd recommend one of the following: Safari (Apple Mac users only), Firefox, Netscape 7 and above, Internet Explorer 6 and above, or any other web browser released this millennium. It's up to you which web browser you choose to use, but we'd advise against Internet Explorer if you're able to choose anything different.
If the text size on our website is too small for you to read comfortably, then many web browsers will allow you to increase (and decrease) the text size. You'll need to check the options/preferences for your web browser to see how to change the text size though, as different web browsers do things differently. Also, if the colour combinations we've used are hard for you to read, then you can disable CSS (stylesheets) within your web browser, and then your default font size, font colour, font faces, background colour and hyperlink colours will be used. Again, you'll need to familiarise yourself with your web browser's options/preferences to learn how to do this.
I thought that By Jovi was a Bon Jovi tribute band?
Short answer:
There is a Bon Jovi tribute band called By Jovi. For more information see http://www.byjovi.com.
Long answer:
By Jovi (the email list) used to be known as By Jove. By Jovi (the tribute band) used to be known as Bi Jovi. We were aware of Bi Jovi (mostly because of their gig adverts in Kerrang! magazine), and they were aware of us too. In early 1998 we changed our name to By Jovi because of some email problems we were having at the time. Much to our amazement, we found out that Bi Jovi had already chosen to start using the By Jovi name. Yikes. We thought we'd chosen an original name. :(
However, the tribute band very kindly allowed us to use the same name as them. We didn't think that there was much chance of people becoming confused between us, as we only had around 120 members back then. We certainly didn't expect to have around 1820 members seven years later! Over the years, just a handful of people have emailed us thinking that we're the tribute band, so we don't think that there has been much confusion. (If anyone does email us by mistake, then we always forward the email on to the tribute band.) Of course, we have no idea how many people have visited our website by mistake, when they were looking for the tribute band's website... but we've put a link to their website on every page of our website, to help anyone in that situation. :)
